Abstract

Micro-credentialing is a recently studied concept with an increasing popularity within Higher Education Institutions. Nevertheless, there is a need for frontier research that analyzes its impact in university contexts with regard to competence acquisition. This present research aimed to systematically integrate the results of studies on the application of micro-credentialing in the educational fields with the purpose of determining the state of the art in recent years. Documents were obtained from four scientific databases: Sciencie Direct, DOAJ, Scopus, EBSCO Host and a mixed analysis was performed. The final number of articles admitted to the analysis was 30. The most important finding was to identify the absence of comprehensive models to apply micro-credentials, there is insufficient evidence on the correct implementation and evaluation of learning in educational environments.
