Tagetes lucida: una opción natural como colorante textil funcional

Resumen

Un colorante es una sustancia que imparte color al fijarse sobre otra. Hay colorantes de origen natural (de plantas, animales o minerales) y de origen sintético. En años recientes, la industria del vestido representa un mercado en continua expansión, debido a las tendencias altamente cambiantes de la moda aunado a los bajos costos de manufactura de las prendas, lo que ha propiciado un aumento considerable en la demanda de colorantes textiles. Esta temática resulta de gran impacto ambiental, considerando que los residuos generados en el teñido de telas representan la segunda fuente más importante de contaminación de agua. De esta manera, se requieren esfuerzos de investigación enfocados en la búsqueda de alternativas para eliminar el uso de colorantes sintéticos para la industria textil. Considerando lo anterior, este trabajo trata sobre la relevancia del estudio de la especie Tagetes lucida, una planta silvestre común en la región sureste de Coahuila, como una alternativa viable para su uso como colorante textil de fibras naturales. Además, se describe el estado del arte sobre el uso de T. lucida en medicina tradicional y de los análisis de los distintos componentes a los que se atribuyen sus propiedades bioactivas, lo que pudiera aprovecharse para conferir propiedades antibacterianas y antifúngicas a las fibras teñidas con estos extractos.
