Avances en la aplicación de óxidos metálicos como recubrimientos fotocatalíticos: una revisión

La problemática de la contaminación hídrica constituye un desafío de gran magnitud en la actualidad. Entre los enfoques empleados para abordar esta problemática, destaca el empleo de la fotocatálisis como método de tratamiento de agua. No obstante, esta técnica presenta consideraciones que ameritan atención. Una de ellas es la implementación de un fotocatalizador en forma de partí-culas finas, lo cual conlleva a complicaciones en su recuperación eficiente. Otro aspecto limitante se relaciona con la capacidad de absorción de luz del fotocatalizador utilizado, la cual, generalmente está restringida al espectro no visible de la radiación electromagnética. Lo que lleva a considerar la alternativa de utilizar los óxidos metálicos en forma de recubrimientos, en lugar de polvos. Los métodos de recubrimiento son técnicas altamente versátiles que permiten aplicar capas protectoras o funcionales sobre una superficie, mejorando su rendimiento y durabilidad. En este trabajo se presenta cómo los recubrimientos fotocatalíticos superan las limitaciones de los materiales en polvo, ofreciendo una solución efectiva para diversos desafíos en la degradación de contaminantes. Además, se examinan algunos fotocatalizadores y los métodos actuales más utilizados para aplicarlos como recubrimientos.
