Abstract

The benefits of consuming cilantro have been known since ancient times through Mexican herbal medicine. The bioactive compounds derived from cilantro (Coriandrum sativum L.) have a wide variety of medical and biotherapeutic applications beyond its recognized gastronomic relevance. Scientific research emphasizes the great nutritional contribution of cilantro and confirms the action of its phytochemical components in the prevention and treatment of multiple chronic degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, Alzheimer's, among many others. Currently, cilantro is generating great attention to scientifically investigate its bioactivities and potential for biotechnological applications in the development of foods and new drugs. Cilantro, without a doubt, provides multiple benefits to achieve healthy aging, improve health and promote the well-being of the population.
