Quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at a regional hospital in northern Mexico.

Objective. To determine the level of quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at a regional hospital in northern Mexico. Methods: A descriptive study design was carried out, including the entire adult population with chronic kidney disease registered in the hemodialysis service census of IMSS, Zone No. 11 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, as of December 31, 2022. The KDQOLF-SF 36 questionnaire, which assesses health-related quality of life, was administered to these patients. Results: The total number of included patients was 32, with 58% being men and 44% women, the majority being married. 65% reported having a very good quality of life. Additionally, the areas of quality of life most affected were limitation in fluid intake, the ability to travel, and work at home, whereas diet restriction, physical appearance, and sexual life showed a lower level of impact. Conclusion: More than 50% of the population considers their quality of life to be very good. Meanwhile, fluid intake restriction is the main area affecting patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis.
