Abstract

Given the wide variety of models that exist today, it is not easy to develop a classification system for the appointment of constitutional court justices that is as comprehensive as possible. It is, however, worthwhile to contribute to the efforts already made in this area by proposing a classification system that provides an overview of these models. This paper will contribute to that purpose by proposing a classification scheme that could prove useful wherever one wishes to implement, modify, or test selection procedures. The proposed framework, in fact, does not stray far from certain categories already formulated by legal doctrine, but the one presented here contains some new elements, as will be discussed later.
