Abstract

This text explores the nature of participatory budgeting and its implementation, mainly in Mexico City. This text analyzes the international background and how this process of citizen participation is developed in the city, from the presentation of the projects to their implementation. The text aims to show that the participatory budget emerged from the “crisis of representative democracy”, with the objective that citizens actively participate in public decisions, however, this objective has not yet been achieved, for which the text gives some possible causes of this.
